This late 12th – early 13th century Buddhist temple is located in the northwest corner of Cambodia’s Banteay Meanchay province and only 20km from the Thai border. It is one of the largest temple-city complexes built by a Khmer king. The temple is in a bad state of preservation as no restoration efforts were conducted here in the 20th century. The layout resembles Angkor Thom and other structures attributed to Jayavarman VII. The outer gallery is carved with bas-relief depicting military engagements and daily life scenes very similar to the well known ones in Bayon. Description

Travelling to Banteay Chhmar takes a little effort but this should not deter you. The temple sees very few visitors mainly due to its remote location and this will earn you the well deserved bragging explorer’s rights.

We are going to pick up you and transfer by a comfortable van with A/C. This takes some 2 hours to reach the enchanting structures hiding in the jungle surrounded by moat. This late 12th – early 13th century Buddhist temple is located in the northwest corner of Cambodia’s Banteay Meanchay province and only 20km from the Thai border. It is one of the largest temple-city complexes built by a Khmer king. The temple is in a bad state of preservation as little restoration efforts were conducted here in the 21st century. The layout resembles Angkor Thom and other structures attributed to Jayavarman VII. The outer gallery is carved with bas-relief depicting military engagements and daily life scenes very similar to the well known ones in Bayon. Private Trekking Tour to The World Heritage Temples

The Angkor Archaeological Park is a largely shaded forested area, so if you wish to combine your temple sightseeing with a healthy dose of walking, this tour is for you! You will be dropped off at Spean Neak bridge and start your walk to Angkor Wat Temple. Then, keep walking on the 8m high laterite wall to the East Gate (Death Gate). This short section of the wall has a clear worn path which is used by local traffic, occasionally you may meet people collecting wood and going on about their daily business. Through breaks in the forest canopy, you will be able to glance at the Angkor Thom moat below and on the other side the slope into the dense jungle.
