Day 01: Angkor Thom City, Taprohm and Angkor Wat
Pick up at hotel and transfer to visit South Gate, the popular gate of the last capital city of Angkorian Period. You will see two rows of Deva & Demon standing and holding the body of Naga. Moreover; you can walk cross the tower with 4 giant faces of future Buddha. Then, visit Bayon, the Buddhist Temple with 49 faces is locating the center of Angkor Thom. You will discover much information of daily lives of people in Angkorian Period. Next, visit Baphoun, the Hinduism Temple with 3 levels was built to dedicate to Shiva God. Visit Phimean Akas and Terrace of Elephant and Leper King. After that, we visit Ta Prohm temple built in the 12th century by Jayavarman VII as a royal monastery. It was dedicated to the king’s mother. Shrouded in jungle, the temple of Ta Prohm is ethereal in aspect and conjures up a romantic aura with gigantic roots and branches intimately intertwined with the stoned and probing walls to form a natural roof above the manmade structures. ( Break for lunch )
Afternoon, visit Angkor Wat, the largest religions building in the world with a volume of stone equaling that of the Cheops pyramid in Egypt. Conceived by Suryavarman II early 12th century. Angkor Wat took an estimated 30 years to build. Unlike most other Khmer temples, it faces West. The most likely reason is because the temple was dedicated to Vishnu, who is sometimes associated with the West. Transferred back to hotel and drop off.
Day 02: Tonle Sap Lake & Artisan Angkor Workshop
We visit Kompong Phluk, an authentic stilted village on the edge of the great Tonle Sap Lake. Here, the Khmer, Vietnamese and Cham people live in harmony with the rising and falling water levels of the lake. Fun fact: most households here own boats as well as motorbikes as their road becomes a water channel during the monsoon. The biggest attraction in this neighbourhood is the eerie Flooded Forest accessible by boat during the wet season. Then, visit The Artisans d’Angkor workshop where skilled artists produce gorgeous pieces of lacquer, stone carvings and silver plating and seeing them at work shows the positive direction of the path Cambodia finds itself on today. If you don’t find your souvenirs and gifts here then perhaps the Old Market will have what you are looking for. Browse and use your bartering skills to bring home your memories of Siem Reap. Back to hotel and drop off.
