Roluos Group Temple
Roluos group temple situated eastern side of Siem Reap town about 15 kilometers on the way to Phnom Penh and 3 kilometers northeast end of the Tonle Sap Lake. There are three temples: Preah Ko, Bakong and Lolei. These temples are dated early of Angkor period which is started from 802 to 1431.
Roluos is a early ancient capital of Khmer Empire which was call Hariharalaya ‘Abode of Hari –Hara’. According to history, King Jayavarman II (802 – 850) who established capital on Phnom Kulen in 802 had moved capital to Roluos for better source of foods and defense. King died at Hariharalaya and his son ‘Jayavarman III’ continued his reign 850 to 877. Indravarman I who started his power from 877, he started to order to dig Baray ‘Indratataka’, Baray of Lolie today (Baray refers to water reservoir) for agriculture. He ordered to build Preah Ko temple 879 for his ancestors and Bakong temple 881 for himself ‘God King temple’. His son ‘Yasovarman I’ continued from 889 to 900. He built Prasat Lolei in 893 and moved capital to ‘Yasodharapura’ Phnom Bakeng today.
